Hawaii's Workers Compensation Law
Your safety and well being on the job is important. However, accidents and illnesses can arise from work and when they do you’re covered under Hawaii’s Workers Compensation Law. The purpose of Hawaii’s worker compensation law is to provide an injured worker with medical care, wage loss replacement, and permanent disability benefits. The law also provides death benefits for dependents.
Most full-time and part-time employees who suffer from injury or disease which results from work are covered. If you are injured as a result of work you should immediately tell the doctor treating you that this is an industrial injury. You may obtain treatment from a physician of your choice. Once your claim is accepted workers compensation insurance carriers should pay for the following:
1. Treatment for the injury
2. Hospital charges
3. Prescription drugs ordered by your doctor
4. X-rays as prescribed
5. Physical Therapy as ordered by your doctor
6. Reasonable transportation expenses
Additionally, when an industrial injury has caused you permanent disability, prevent you from returning to your usual and customary employment, you may be referred for vocational rehabilitation to assist you in returning to suitable employment.
